Leg 7 - Grayswood to Ansteadbrook (3.55 km)

Leave Wheatsheaf car park and turn R onto Grayswood Road (A286), continuing uphill for 50m to paved drive entrance to private properties on R (sp).  Turn L here and cross road to footpath opposite (sp).  Continue ahead on footpath past houses on L, emerging onto The Mount (sp).  Cross road and continue on footpath across grassy area to Lower Road in front of school.  Turn R  and continue ahead on Lower Road through residential area, crossing junction with Clammer Hill and Prestwick Road onto bridleway (sp), and descend gently to sewage works.  Bear R, ignoring path L, passing nursery on R and paddocks on L, generally SE.

Continue ahead and, in about 200m, pass through gate, bearing R (wm) onto bridleway, leading towards woodland.  Continue ahead, keeping field boundary on L.  Pass through copse and bear L onto footpath (wm) across field towards corner of woodland.  Bear R (wm), keeping woodland boundary on L, passing through gap in wooded field boundary, and continuing ahead on track across field to gap in wooded field boundary opposite.  Ignore footpath L (sp) and continue ahead through field boundary, turning R onto path running along field boundary (wm) and continue ahead to junction with paved vehicle track bordering lake.  Turn L onto paved track (wm) and, ignoring road R (sp) to Imbhams Farm, continue ahead onto bridleway (sp) and follow wide gated vehicle track, passing second lake on R and ignoring all turn-offs.  Bridleway eventually becomes paved road to Furness Place.  Turn R (sp) and continue ahead on road [views behind of Furness Place house], crossing high-level river bridge to Stream House on R  Leave bridleway and enter drive to Stream House(sp), turning L immediately, before entering house gate, and crossing stile onto footpath (sp here may not be visible).  Cross field diagonally (generally SE) to cross stile opposite onto Killingshurst Lane.

{Killingshurst Lane leads L to Cripplecrutch Hill (A283) and The Mulberry Inn  about 2.5 kms; Killingshurst Lane R leads to Petworth Road (B2131), where #71 buses to Haslemere and Haslemere station are said to stop on request, and, turning R on Petworth Road, to the Lythe Hill Hotel  about 1 km.}

Cross Killingshurst Lane slightly R onto unmade vehicle drive  to Verney Cottage and bridleway (sp).  Turn R just before Verney Cottage through field gate onto bridleway (wm).  Continue ahead on bridleway keeping hedge on R for about 500m.  Turn R at woodland on footpath entering copse.  Follow footpath through woodland, keeping main road on R, turning eventually through gate (sp) onto main Petworth Road (B2132) opposite entrance to Ansteadbrook Stud at Ansteadbrook.
